Another Year in Review – and The Road Ahead

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Welcome to 2017!happy-new-year-sparkler-gold-animated-gif.gif

Last year was a real doozy for everyone, everywhere. There were some great things that happened; Giant Pandas, Humpback Whales, Manatees and Sea Turtles are no longer endangered! Leo FINALLY won an Oscar! The Ice Bucket Challenge helped fund the scientists who found the gene for ALS! Woohoo!!

Your favorite adventurers had some pretty epic awesome this last year, too! Let’s not forget our incredible trip to Nerd Mecca, our personal guided tour of Jet Propulsion Labs, and our trips to  various beaches! We even took our mews Matilda Pants to the beach!

Along the way we made some pretty incredible new friends, and we certainly learned a lot. Some of the nicest people we encountered on our adventures were (but certainly not limited to)…..

Harvest Hosts – Kim and Don are incredible people. We were gifted a membership with them, but were unable to use it. They not only refunded the gift to the buyer, but they also gave us “Does Not Expire” membership status! If you are on the road, and looking for a unique and awesome adventure, be sure to check out what Harvest Hosts has to offer!

Royal Prestige – Before we hit the road, we bought a full set of these amazing pots and pans! This set was going to last us the rest of our lives, if we took proper care of them. They have a great layaway program, and we were able to make payments until we were finally able to purchase the set. Granted, the set was expensive, but worth it. Of course the thieves new the set was nice, too, and they took every last piece. Even the salad shooter. Over $3000 worth of cooking items. After some convincing from the Head of our Fan Club, we emailed Royal Prestige to see what could be done. They were VERY generous and offered to sell us another set for 50% off. While we are not financially able to take them up on this offer, it was very kind of them. If you are looking for the best set of pots, pans, and cooktops in the world (and worth their weight for RVing), please check these guys out!

Geeks Who Drink – Our Brother from Another Mother works as a QuizMaster, and is a Quiz God with GWD. When our RV was first stolen, he started a GoFundMe for us that literally saved our lives. He sent it out to everyone he knew at GWD, which is a lot of folks, and through their donations we were able to find places to stay, eat, and keep the Mews healthy. We also made a couple life long friends in the process! We can’t wait to see everyone at the annual GeekBowl in Seattle, and give HUGE hugs to our Brother From Another Mother, as well as our new favorite Quiz Mistress, and our favorite Wedding Crashers from Texas!

There was, of course, the whole business of our RV, and everything we owned, being stolen or destroyed. Then dealing with “Outdoor Planet” (We aren’t allowed to say who they are, but you know who they are), then Outdoor Plant “losing” our trailer…not to mention that it took them OVER SIX MONTHS to repair damages from the theft. That is a long time to be homeless. So, while we waited, and waited, and waited some more, we set up an AwesomeSauce Headquarters in sunny California!

california.jpg

During the course of the RVpocolypse, we drained all our resources. From hotel rooms and Air BnB’s, to traveling up and down California a few times – and back and forth to Vegas a few times, to eating, taking Mews to the vet a few times (turns out stress can really do a number on pets), to the adventurers getting sick (stress can also really do a number on people)…then getting a “Brick and Mortar” HQ. When you have no job, and no real rental history for a few months, getting a rental can be very difficult. We had first and last months rent, and a security deposit, which helped A LOT. That, and a very understanding and cool landlord, got us into a very cool house. A nice fenced yard for a Mews to meander, filled with hummingbirds, oranges, and a few bugs we have never seen before. After that we set up gas, electric, and internet. All with down payments.

Then there was the task of getting some furniture. We needed a bed for sleeping, chairs for sitting, and a table for eating (not to eat the table..but to eat at! Silly). Our table doubles as desk, our chairs function as chairs, stepladders, and cat bed holders. We also needed to get some clothes! After a few trips to all the thrift stores, and one trip to a new mattress place, we were able to function in our house.

To make a long story short (too late), we went through all of our monies dealing with the RV, the legal stuff, and getting back on our feet.

Fear not! Some other highlights of 2016 was that Awesome K was able to get a couple of interesting jobs! He was a food inspector for items going to the South Pole, he served a new culture of people in “Little Saigon,” finally landing a regular gig doing what he loves, dealing cards! He is now a dealer at a Four Diamond Triple A rated casino resort! Fancy-schmancy! Saucy G FINALLY started really working on her novel writing, and has gotten a great start on a few stories. Even the Mews are back to work, with Archer head of Agriculture, Matilda is Head of the Neighborhood Watch, and Lana continues to work in Security while dabbling in being a Cat Food Critic. We also welcomed a new Mews to our Team! The incredible and marvelous Castielanova Bagginsess Pants, or Cass for short. He is working closely with his idol and mentor, Archer, and learning all there is to know about being an Adventure Cat.

Our final bit of excitement in 2016 was FINALLY bringing the RV back home! We were able to drive her from Vegas in late December, and she was home in time for Christmas! 2673.jpg

So, 2016 had it’s ups and downs, like a roller-coaster at Circus Circus, but we ended the year healthy, safe, and together. What more could we ask for?

Thanks for helping us through 2016, we honestly and truly could not have done it without you and your never ending support! You are beyond Awesome, and we love you to pieces! you-are-seriously-awesome

We aren’t sure what 2017 has to offer us, but we have a few ideas as to where we would like to go with it. What about you? How was your 2016? What are you looking forward to in 2017?

CATching Up

Hello! Welcome back to AwesomeSauce Adventure!

We took November off to focus on NaNoWrimo  and writing a novel (or starting several), and are finally back to share with you all of our adventures!

“But you have been gone a lot longer….”

Shhh.

“than one…”

SHhhhh.

“month. Where have…”

SHHHHHHHHHH

NaNoWriMo was successful, in that we are now “in the habit” of writing, which is great news for you! Blog posts! Snippets of Saucy G’s books! So much excitement!

Let’s start by CATching up on what has been going on here at AwesomeSauce HQ.

The last time you heard from us, Awesome K had attempted to go get the RV from Camping World Las Vegas, and was met with a “missing” trailer. Well, there is no update there. The trailer is gone, never to be seen again, and we still don’t have the RV. Awesome K is hoping to go pick it up in the next couple of weeks, but we are skeptical.

HQ has had some big changes, though! We had a company meeting, and it was decided that we were one Mews short. We interviewed many qualified and wonderful candidates, narrowing it down to a few exceptional potentials. It was only after we consulted The Universe that we were able to find, and hire, our latest Mews!

Please give a warm welcome to Castiel Baggins! Cass, also known as Cassieopealliow, Mr Kitty Cat Cass, Baby Kitty, Toasted Marshmallow, Mr Baby Pants, and, of course, Cassanova. Just look at him!

Cass is currently interning under Archer Funnyfoot in Public Relations, and is cross training in Human Relations. We have not yet determined which department he will head, as we are waiting for him to get a little more comfortable being here at HQ.

(sorry for poor quality) Cass is a HUGE Archer fan, and is very excited to be working with him

Earlier we mentioned NaNoWriMo. What is that, you ask? “National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to creative writing. On November 1, participants begin working towards the goal of writing a 50,000-word novel by 11:59 PM on November 30.” – NaNoWriMo.org. It is a chance for budding novelists, and seasoned pros, to sit down and start a new challenge. The goal is to start a brand new novel, and write at least 1600 words a day. That will get you to the 50,000 word goal, and it gets you into the habit of sitting and writing every day. Of course you can write more or less words per day, the end goal is the same.

Saucy G sat down for her first NaNoWriMo attempt, and did pretty darned well! While she didn’t hit her 50,000 word goal, she got darn close with 30,000! She also got a great start on a memoir (which is rebellious for NaNoWriMo), and a modest start on her first novel. We will feature snippets from both from time to time, so keep an eye out for a Saucy G Original (SGO)!

027.jpg
We humbly think the SGO’s are pretty great

We have a few adventures to catch you up on, like San Francisco, LA, and, of course, the Winchester Mystery House…plus some sweet stuff in the future, like Napa, Seattle, and a few other awesome surprises!

That is a lot of stuff to do! We better get to it!

See you soon!

LAUNCH!

AND THEY ARE OFF!

Yup, we did it. We finally hit the road! With a lot of help from our friends and family, of course. We were very fortunate to have Mama AwesomeSauce, Michael the Painter, and Sir Christopher Knight and Mews Guard of House Fluffington to see us off. We cracked a bottle of champagne (we would have broken it over the hull, but we were scared of what that would do to the engine, and tires, and street, and what nots), toasted to our travels, then the AwesomeSauce Duo and Mews HIT THE ROAD! It was a tearful farewell…so many emotions! Sad to say goodbye – Saucy G has lived in Colorado her whole life! Scared of what was ahead (terrified, if truth be told). Excited to finally be on the road after years of planning and hoping and saving and and and…

We pulled ourselves together, and headed west! Our first stop? The KOA at Cripple Creek, Colorado. I know, not very far for our maiden voyage, however we had a few reasons for the semi-close to home stop. We wanted to make sure our first day of driving wasn’t too long and strenuous for us, and mostly for the Mews. We wanted to see how the A’Tuin would handle the road, and we wanted to be able to test out all of our hoses, connections and everything else in a park that was sort of familiar. We have never been to a KOA before, but we had been to Cripple Creek, so if something went horribly wrong, at least we would be in familiar surroundings, and close enough to “home” that if the rig blew up we could get back ok. It was sort of a security blanket stop, as well as a test run before we “got serious” and left the state.

Boy are we glad we did! We didn’t have any major disasters, thank goodness, but that first day was a learning experience! First, just because it looks cute while you are parked does NOT mean that the decorations or whatevers you have are practical while driving. Items shift while in transit (we should have listened during all the in flight safety talks), and those items WILL find a way to the floor. Or will move to against the door of the cabinet, like a booby trap in a kids Christmas movie.
image

Adventure Tip– Secure ALL THE THINGS. Seriously stuff will move around.

Secondly, no matter how much you plan, and prepare, something will go wrong and/or possibly break. We made sure we had solar for when we weren’t plugged in, we checked our roof, we made places for Mews to sleep and hide, we had two different inspections on the rig itself JUST to make sure everything was ready to go. Feeling smug and secure, we plugged into our first ever site, got the water and electricity going, and settled into a “normal” house. We washed our hands, a lot, we cooked in our fancy new cookware (this stuff is truly amazing, more on that later), and we did dishes.

Then…it happened. Like a scene out of a horror movie. It crept. It slowly seeped its way into the kitchen. The unsuspecting couple, minding their own business, living life unawares of the threat that lurked around the corner….

A LEAK!
https://www.instagram.com/p/BGueLRGtAbH/
WHERE?! WHAT! WHY?! Where was the water coming from? What is going on? Why won’t it stop? AHHHHH!

We quickly shut everything off, sopped up what we could get to, then went hunting for the Moist Menace. We ended up ripping out part of our cabinet under the sink to get to the problem. It was HORRIFYING! There is was. A HUGE CRACK in our drain pipe going to our grey tank. HUGE. How did it get there? Was it from winterization? Perhaps when the big box company was installing the new toilet, they cut the pipe without noticing? Or goblins snuck into the rig and sliced the pipe, just for a laugh (I KNEW I should have burnt some sage before we left). Whatever the cause, there it was. Now the kitchen sink and the bathroom sink were inoperable until we get it fixed.

Worry not! We didn’t let this get us down. Until we can fix it, or get it fixed, we have come up with a solution. Tubs! There are three tubs, one for each sink. When we wash dishes we have a soap tub, and a rinse tub. There is one it the bathroom for catching water, also. Luckily the shower seems to have its own drain into the grey tank, so we end up emptying our tubs into the shower after use.

After that frighten, we checked every other connection we could find! Pipes, hoses, (almost) everything.

Again, we missed a spot. Later, when we were leaving our second KOA stop, we, well, couldn’t leave. The engine wouldn’t start! OH NO! DISASTER! Where do we get a new battery? Is it the battery? Is it the alternator? Is it some deep engine problem that Saucy G knows nothing about? AHHHHHHH!
image

Nope. It was a loose connection on the battery. A VERY nice man at the Santa Fe KOA (our second stop) found the problem, tightened the connection, jumped our battery, and sent us on our way.

SO, as the old saying goes, something something mice and men, planning…and…err…um….

You and never plan for everything ever, because something will come up. Turns out this Full Time Lifestyle has a whole new way of life to learn! So many new things, new problems, new solutions, new new new! Who knew?! The best part is that it is all worth it. The leaks, the creaks, the battery, all of it are worth it for the adventures.

Speaking of…

Are you Ready for an Adventure?

The Intern

Recently we lost our Head of Logistics. It has been a very troubling time here at AwesomeSauce Headquarters, both with the mourning of Secret Agent Sam, and with not having a leader!

While no one has been promoted to Head of Logistics yet, Miss Matilda Pants (Trip Coordinator and Mews), and Sir Archer Funnyfoot (P.R Manager and Mews) have been working hard to fill his shoes. All that work, though, has lead to a very tired, and slightly stressed AwesomeSauce Team. After a few meetings, budget analysis, and grueling recruitment process, we have officially welcomed a new intern to Headquarters!

Lady Lana Miss Fits of House Fluffington

We would like everyone to give a warm welcome to Lady Lana Miss Fits of House Fluffington (Lana for short). Lana has a background in government relations, having served time working for the Kitty FBI. She also worked as a contractor operating mainly in RECON and undercover ops. She and Archer both trained at C.C.S, which is one of the main reasons she was hired as an intern here (under the strong recommendation of Archer).

We would tell you more, but of course it’s classified. Lana has joined the team as a Mews, and is currently interning with our P.R Manager. Talk in the camp is that Archer will be promoted to Logistics, once Lana has learned the duties of P.R Manager, and feels comfortable taking over the role.

Lana is a shining light here at Headquarters! She is spunky, upbeat, tough (she doesn’t take any guff from her bosses!), and, of course, adventurous! We are very lucky to have her join our team! LanaContemplating

Welcome Aboard Lana! Here is to working together for many years to come!

AwesomeSauce Team….ASSEMBLE!

Here at AwesomeSauce Headquarters, we work (fairly) hard to bring the world some adventure! Between planning trips, researching routes, and, of course, eventually writing about our shenanigans, there is a lot that goes in to our overall Awesomeness. Luckily the authors, Awesome K and G-Sauce, are not alone! Let us introduce you to our dedicated team of Adventures!

los pollos hermanosHead Writer – Lead Cat Herder – CFO of Shenanigans – Director of Fantastical Operations – G Sauce (aka Saucy G, Nenner)

G Sauce has been adventuring for over 25 years, traveling the globe in search of all things Awesome. In 2001, she and Secret Agent Sam starting forming what would become the AwesomeSauce Team, eventually adding Miss Matilda Pants in 2002, Awesome K in 2012, and most recently adding Mr. Foots in 2013. Prior to becoming CFO of Shenanigans at Team AwesomeSauce, she, along with Sam and Miss Pants, earned her Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology from Metropolitan State College of Denver. She has worked a number of interesting jobs, everything from Dog Groomer to Probation Officer, G Sauce has done a little of everything. G Sauce is currently Head Writer for the Team, as well as being Director of Fantastical Operations, and consults regularly with Trip Coordinator, Miss Pants, on where to go and what to do next. When she is not off exploring all the world has to offer with Awesome K, G Sauce enjoys reading, fly fishing, treading water at the poker table, and all things geek/nerd/awesome related.

A.K keeps an eye out for the feds while I play on the swingsDirector of Logistical Inevitabilities – CEO of Shenanigans – Lead Editor – Writer – Craft Beer Devotee – Awesome K (aka The Kevin, Mr. Sweetheart, S, Sir Kevin S )

Awesome K began interning at AwesomeSauce Headquarters in August of 2012. After a lot of hard work, dedication, and a well deserved recommendation from then CEO Secret Agent Sam, Awesome K was officially added to the AwesomeSauce Team, finally completing the AwesomeSauce Duo. Since then, Awesome K has worked as Head Chef, Lead of Support, Writer, and has been recently named as Director of Logistical Inevitabilities (congratulations Awesome K!). In 2013, Awesome K hired Mr. Foots to manage P.R, and since then the two have been inseparable, always working together on new ideas and ways to further the AwesomeSauce goals. When Awesome K is not hard at work at AwesomeSauce Headquarters, he can be founding slinging beer at Arvada Beer Company, swinging golf clubs, flinging cards at the poker tables, and singing the songs of his peoples.

Secret Agent SamHead of Logistics – Mews – Secret Agent Sam (aka Sweetie Thai Prince, Sir Samwise PuddinBuns of House Fluffington, Sam, Mama’s Puddin’)

Before joining the AwesomeSauce Team in 2001, Sam was a decorated Secret Agent. While much of his past is still classified, it is rumored that he had a paw in hundreds of covert and secret cases. After retiring with honor from the Secret Service, Sam joined G-Sauce to form the first stages of AwesomeSauce. As a founding member, Sam has had many roles on the team, as well as a variety of side businesses and ventures. From Head of Security, to Sous Chef, Sam has done it all for the AwesomeSauce Team. In 2007, both he and Miss Pants earned their Bachelor of Science Degrees in Criminal Justice and Criminalisitics from Metropolitan State College in Denver, Colorado. Sam has also been the founder and CEO of a few Clubs, restaurants, and other smaller side businesses. After Miss Pants was found to be involved in an embezzling scandal, stealing from Sam’s various Clubs with attempts to run to Venezuela, Sam decided to retire from CEO-dom, and decided to focus solely on the AwesomeSauce adventures. He has taken Mr. Foots under his wing, and has helped cultivate the AwesomeSauce Team to be the success that it is today. With amble time to relax, Sam has turned his attentions to gardening, cat-bed-testing, and enjoys carpet swimming and watching television. His favorite shows include HBO’s Game of Thrones, and Netflix’s Orange is the New Black. All BusinessSweetie Thai Prince

Coordinator Matilla the HunTrip Coordinator – Mews – Miss Matilda Pants (aka Madam Pantalones of House Fluffington, Miss Pants, Matilla the Hun)

After defecting from the KGB, Miss Pants led a life on the run. She went deep into hiding, living with squirrels, eating off the land, and fighting for survival. Finally she was able to find asylum in a place she had previously staked out for the KGB, the AwesomeSauce Headquarters. She moved in during the fall of 2002, and quickly adapted to her new life as Trip Coordinator, Mews, and Queen of All the Things. Miss Pants is a dedicated member of the AwesomeSauce team, working on trip planning of all sorts, and can often be found meditating on maps in order to find the best routes for the Duo to travel. In recent years she has taken a more relaxed approach to life, retiring from her role as Neighborhood Watch President so that she can focus on her rigid nap routines. She still enjoys communicating with the squirrel community, attending the annual Squirrels of the World convention. She no longer plots to run to Venezuela. Or run Venezuela, thankfully.

P.R Manager P.R Manager – Mews – Sir Archer Funnyfoot Wobblesworth of House Fluffington (aka Archer, Mr. Foots, Sweet Beebee)

Archer is a recent member of the AwesomeSauce Adventure Team, being hired in September of 2013. Prior to joining the AwesomeSauce Team, Mr. Foots was a reckless and wild Secret Agent, but after getting his burn notice, he was forced into a very early retirement. Secret Agent Sam, being a former Agent himself, agreed to bring the young gun onto the team, after being hired as an intern by Awesome K. Though young, Mr. Foots has proven to be a versatile member of the team! Whether working hard to promote the AwesomeSauce Duo, researching social media outlets and marketing campaigns, being a one cat Ad Man, or being a mews to the writers, Mr. Foots is always ready to do whatever is needed, and is willing to put in long hours helping at the computer. When not working diligently as our P.R Manager, Mr. Foots enjoys gardening, running, and hunting bugs. He currently holds the record for Most Bugs Caught in a Single Day!
