Everyone has something they wish they could be doing.
A dream, a passion, a something other than this.
If you are on social media at all, and I have to assume you are because, well, here you are, undoubtedly you have seen some of those inspirational pictures flying around.
Or something along those lines.
I have always felt there was more to life than what I was seeing. Once upon a time, a baby G-Sauce would break free from the confines and constraints of life, and would escape on epic adventures. Some called it “running away,” others called it “reckless,” and still others called the cops on the toddler waddling down the road towards unknown adventure. I just knew there was more to see, more to do, more to smell, more to touch, more of everything than the everyday. Well, baby G-Sauce didn’t think of it in so many terms, it was more of “I want to go out!”
In the past, I have had a few times to “go out” on adventures. Life changing adventures, scary adventures, and even one or two that were sort of meh – but at least they were adventures. A lot of the adventures I went on, I went on with my “Old Man,” my Grandfather Pete Parker (yes my Grandfather was Spider Man, but more on my super hero lineage in another post). He and I traveled everywhere, and most of the time it was in an old ’76 Dodge RV. He called it the “Parker Princess.” If we were ever wondering where he was, it was always “spending time with the Princess.” I also spent a lot of time with the “Princess,” even when we weren’t on the road. I would just sit in the tiny dining room (that could convert into a big bed), and daydream about adventure. Where I would go. What I would do. How I would just live in the RV with a couple of cats and see all the things.
Eventually we had to sell the RV, and that broke my heart. I was positive that the “Princess” would be in my life forever, and that she and I would hit the road someday. I vowed that I would own my own RV, and that we would hit the road together. I had already plotted where I wanted to go first, how I was going to survive on the road (you’re looking at it), and how long I was going to run away for (forever). It started to feel like it was only ever going to be a dream, I had no idea how I was going to accomplish it! I had bills to pay, and cats to feed, and no way of getting out.
Little did I know, there was a man out there that wanted exactly what I wanted (well, almost)! Awesome K had been dreaming the same dreams I had been dreaming! All he wanted to do was to get an RV, travel the country, and write about his adventures. He was going to see every baseball stadium (including minor league), he was going to see weird stuff, he was going to see all the things! Taste all the tastes! Smell all the smells! He was going to go on all the adventures! He had already been on some sweet adventures, but like me, had a need and a dream for more. Like me, though, he also didn’t know how to get out.
Years went by. Work happened, then didn’t happen, then happened again. People came and went. There was loss, a lot of loss. All the while we each dreamed of an RV and our eventual adventures.
Awesome K calls it Serendipity, I call it luck and a push from the universe, but whatever it was, we finally found each other! (cue the Aww Track) In addition to finding out that we were perfect for each other (Aww), we also found out that we had been dreaming the same dream! Wishing the same wish! Hoping the same….well, you get it.
Together, we set out to make it happen. We plotted, planned, saved all our pennies, assembled the most awesome team known to man, made some magic happen, had a little (a lot) of help from friends and family, and then…
WE BOUGHT AN RV!
Honestly, there was a lot more work than two sentences, but that’s beyond the point (and probably a different blog post altogether). The point is, it’s happening. It’s actually happening!
This is so exciting, and terrifying, and awesome, and weird, and and and…
There is so much to do! So much to share! SO MUCH AWESOME!
Too much awesome for one post, actually. So, stayed tuned! There is A LOT happening, and a lot more to come!
